Adams and his wife Abigail moved from the White House to their home called Peacefield after is term. Peacefield is also known as The Old Home. Peacefield had been in the Adams's family for four generations, also being the home the John Quincy Adams after his presidency. Tours are available from spring until fall in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Adams wrote this in a letter to Thomas Jefferson. They had not got along after Adams became president. They kept in close contact until they both died.

Burial
Adams is buried in a tomb with his son, John Quincy Adams, his wife, Abigail Smith Adams, John Quincy Adams's wife, Louisa Catherine Adams. They are all buried in the United First Parish Church in Quincy Massachusetts. The Adams family funded the building of the church and attended it. The pew that the family regularly sat in is marked with a plaque.
